About the Research

The FSIR Survey is a community-based and reviewed research project to determine the impacts families experienced and solutions they found during the infant formula shortage resulting from supply chain disruption, safety recalls and production plant closures. This survey research will be used as the foundation for presentations and recommendations to health departments, infant feeding support professionals, nutrition programs and food banks to help change policies so that families have more protection when formula supply doesn't meet the needs of babies.

The research team includes trained Social and Biological Science researchers, infant feeding and lactation specialists. The research team is a multi-racial, gender diverse, disability inclusive team with several members who have been WIC recipients and experienced food insecurity during their lives and while feeding children. These experiences and the dedication to ensuring every baby is safely fed are the foundation for this work.
